Over 1,500 students attend Watertown-Mayer schools.  The district’s enrollment has increased 3-4% per year since 2001-02.  A recently calculated demographic study projects that similar growth rates will occur during the next 10 to 15 years.  Parents and other community members are encouraged to be actively involved in the schools by volunteering, giving input for decisions, and serving on committees.  Community members are also invited to take advantage of the many activities offered through Community Education.

City
Watertown is located in Carver County, Minnesota along the South Fork of the Crow River.  With the population just over 3,000, Watertown is a small town with loving people and a caring community.  A large portion of the town gathers for various events such as town plays, sporting events and activities like walking the Luce Line and participation in the annual hunt for the Golden Spike.  There is a fantastic town festival once a year called Rails to Trails.  Since Watertown turned 150 this past summer, Rails to Trails has been transformed into a sophisticated event with tents, games and lots of food!  Watertown is a wonderful place to live and raise a family.

Luce Line Trail
The Luce Line Trail is a state-established trail maintained by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.  It stretches 63 miles from the western metro suburb of Plymouth to the small town of cosmos in west-central Minnesota.  The trail runs on a former railroad line and is available for biking, hiking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and skiing.
The Luce Line Trail was originally built as the Electric Short Line Railway from downtown Minneapolis to west central Minnesota by Colonel William Luce.  In 1927, it reached its western most point at Gluek, MN, which was referred to by employees as “the coast”.  The trail was officially abandoned by the railroad in 1972 and was taken over by the DNR for a recreational in 1976.  The Luce Line Trail is a preserved strip of countryside with many varieties of plants and animals.
